One green, carried from the chandelier to the window seat.
The living room runs the length of the house under a shallow barrel ceiling, its wood casements and stone chimneypiece left as they were. The colour comes in from the garden: a chandelier of green glass discs, floral linen at the windows and lining the window seat alcove, aqua lounge chairs with Greek key cushions, and lime velvet drawn up to the fire.
Beyond the living room the house moves through its colours room by room. The entry sets a round blue table of gladioli under a gilded chandelier; the dining room runs a long mahogany table beneath a pierced lantern; the breakfast room puts blue chairs at a marble table under a wall of botanical prints; and the family room turns to navy velvet and plaid. Upstairs it goes quieter still, grasscloth and pale blue in one bedroom, a vaulted ceiling and a sphere chandelier in the other, with the study downstairs in slate and plaid.
