An English cottage of 1932, kept pale and furnished almost entirely in blue.
The long living room runs between two fireplaces on near black floors. Two teal velvet sofas face each other across a blue lacquer table of Chinese line, a Platner chair in pale blue at one end, a caned campaign chair at the other. Walls and curtains stay the colour of unbleached paper, so the room's incidents carry: rose damask and star cushions, a ribbon painting over one sofa, a glass jar of oranges, Murano glass catching the afternoon on a brass and glass table.
Elsewhere the house is collected rather than decorated. A Korean chest with iron hardware holds a lamp painted with an ideal city; a Japanese screen shelters a working desk; a grouping of round mirrors climbs the stair beside a green runner. The kitchen keeps its mosaic backsplash and tribal runners and opens to a small sitting end with a tulip table and aubergine seating. The main bath is travertine end to end, with a teak bench run the length of the shower and a niche of starfish and coral.
